# Manage billing

See which plan this organization is on, how long a trial has left, which features are included, and (when self-serve billing is configured) subscribe or open the billing portal.

**Where to find it:** **Settings → Billing**

Anyone in the org can open the Billing tab. **Checkout** and **Manage billing** require **Manage organization** (`org:manage`). Without it, the page asks you to contact an organization owner.

## Plans at a glance

New organizations start with a **14-day Gold trial**. Gold and Black are paid plans. There is no permanent free tier.

The Billing page lists each feature with **Included** or **Locked** for your current entitlements.

## What the Billing tab shows

- **Current plan** badge (for example Gold or Black), or **No plan** when access has expired
- **Trial** badge with days remaining while a Gold trial is active
- **Subscription status** badge when you have an active subscription (wording comes from the billing provider status)
- Feature list with tier labels (Gold / Black) and lock state

## Subscribe or manage payment

When self-serve billing is available in your environment:

| **Get Gold** / **Subscribe to Gold** | Gold checkout is available and you are not already on a non-trial Gold subscription |
| **Upgrade to Black** / **Subscribe to Black** | Black checkout is available and you are not already on Black (or you are still on a trial) |
| **Manage billing** | You already have a billing customer and are subscribed (not only on trial needing subscribe) |

Checkout and the portal open in the browser so you can complete payment or update payment details and invoices.

If the page says self-serve billing isn’t available in this environment, contact support to change plans — do not invent alternate checkout steps.

## When a plan expires

Without an active Gold or Black plan (for example after trial without subscribing), the workspace **pauses**: product APIs and day-to-day work stop, while configuration and data are retained. Organization settings and billing recovery remain reachable so you can subscribe and restore access.

## Good to know

- Locked features (SSO, logging destinations, and so on) show lock indicators elsewhere in Settings until Black is active.
- Trial countdown is visible on this tab; act before the trial ends if you need uninterrupted access.
- Feature entitlements refresh after a successful subscribe; reopen Billing if a badge looks stale.
